“Best Practices” -- Leadership Resource

Membership Department

Revised September 16, 2009

FELLOWSHIP EVENTS

The Membership Department works to create quality fellowship events in the life of the congregation throughout the year.  Congregational luncheons, dinners, and other social events provide time for members and visitors to become better acquainted.

            1.  Make arrangements for set up and take down of tables, chairs, decorations, and needed equipment.

            2.  Review the SACC calendar at the beginning of the year to set the dates for fellowship events.  Review the calendar monthly to be sure events are listed.

COMMUNICATION

            1.  Review current methods used by SACC to communicate with members.  Make recommendations for improvements to the staff and Board.

            2.  Evaluate the church’s web site as tool for reaching members and visitors.

Make recommendations for upgrades and improvements to the web site.  Recruit knowledgeable members of the congregation to serve on a team to facilitate this work.  Make recommendations to Stewardship for funding required.

            3.  Evaluate use of the worship bulletin as a communication tool for church events.  Make recommendations to staff.

            4.  Update bulletin boards in the church hallways.  Work with our Church Secretary to do this job.

MEMBER RECORDS

            1.  Review the Membership Records with the Church Secretary (staff position) to be sure SACC has a current and accurate database.

            2.  Review administrative expenses associated with maintaining the software for keeping membership records.

NEW MEMBER WORK

            1.  Work with staff to be sure that new members receive a ‘New Member Packet’ immediately after joining the church.

            2.  Review and update the contents of the ‘New Member Packet.’
